You are welcome
Visit of schools pupils
We are organising regularly visit to our group for students from High School of Delft, mavo, havo or vwo.
Visit of CLD Delft
In January 2019, for example, a group of fourth year students, from the Christelijk Lyceum Delft (CLD) visited the Optics group. This is the second time, on an annual basis, the physics teacher with his class was invited. The goal of the visit was to show the students, in the age of 15-16 years, that even with a general secondary education level degree, as starting point, it’s possible to work at a University. Of course additional degrees are required but the message is to emphasize to the young pupils to always follow their career dreams.
Presentation
During the presentation the students were introduced with the basic concept of Fourier analysis and acoustical interference. For the explanation of the Fourier analysis a basic formula was used which the students learned during math and physics class. With the help of equipment and audible signals the Fourier analysis and acoustical interference was demonstrated.
With a lab tour
The presentation was followed by a lab tour. The students visited an anechoic chamber, a reverberation room and optics lab. The anechoic chamber and reverberation room are both impressive facilities within the Applied Physics department. The acoustical interference demonstration during the presentation was used as a starting point to show that interference can also occur optically. With a working setup optical interference was explained and demonstrated. The difference between the acoustical wavelength scale and optical wavelength scale was emphasized during this demonstration.
And a tour by the professor
Overall, the pupils enjoy grandly the tour given by the professor and/or the technicians. They are able to ask questions and feel closer to the university and the research we are performing in our laboratories.
