Application of hyperbolic meta-materials

What is the ideal optical material for imaging?

Summary

Meta-materials are the materials with sub-wavelength structures created by nano-fabrication. We working on creating meta-materials that is best suitable for optical imaging, such that we can beat the classical optical resolution limit.

Research description

The hyperbolic meta-materials (HMMs) is a very special type of meta-materials that has the dispersion surface as a hyperboloid. The advantage of this material is that it can convert evanescent field into propagation wave. Our project is about utilizing the material property and apply it to conventional optical system, which can improve the optical resolution tremendously.
